Chairperson Message
Prof. Dr. Yasira Naeem Pasha
It is an honour and pleasure for me to welcome the young students in Department of Architecture and Planning at Dawood University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi. In a world of futuristic approach, we anticipate the future architects to be well integrated in the society reflecting their excellence imparted in the institution. The academic and professional approach is envisioned through “Socially Responsive Architecture”.
Following the philosophy of the integrated approach in architectural design, the department holds a strong background being the pioneer of architectural education in Pakistan for a degree course. It offers a five-year undergraduate course covering multiple aspects of the architectural studies including social, contextual, historical, technological, scientific and cultural factors. The courses of study are designed to sensitize the students by developing their default intellect in a holistic manner, encompassing architectural knowledge. Students are encouraged to gain hands on experience through study visits, involvement in practical assignments, and internships to attain a certain level of confidence and knowledge to practice. Our highly intellectual faculty ensures the vision of the department to be inculcated in the students at its best. Commitment and dedication are additional strengths of the faculty and supporting professional staff.
The department offers a feel-good ambiance to enhance the workability of students, faculty and staff. The premises have been developed according to the needs and activities. A well- elaborated reference library and advanced computer lab is developed to facilitate the students and staff. In addition to these, facilities of departmental staff offices, architectural design studios, model making lab, surveying and levelling lab, material and construction lab are supporting the academic and administrative requirements. The department encourages the research approach in social and contextual areas covering the multidisciplinary grounds. Final year students present their thesis research in several areas relevant to architectural discipline. The interactive learning is also adopted as an added feature through several seminars, intellectual discussions, and specified workshops. The department foresees to excel in its vision for serving the society for best appropriate architecture in the years to come.
